E-Sharp – New Album Release

The Pakistani music industry is full of surprises. Every once in a while a band comes along the spotlight and takes the industry by storm – and E-Sharp has done just that. Their previous album Bahadur Yaar Jung was nominated in LUX Style Awards under the category of best albums, competing side by side with Noori and a couple of other renowned musicians. The word is that they are coming up with a new album soon and so we decided to have a one-on-one session with them. With a long discussion with Ahmed Zawar, this is what came up:
Question:
What is the album about?
Answer:
The album titled 600 Years is a collection of different songs the band has written in the past 11 months or so. Its a story of a man who travels 600 in the future in the quest of his lost love. And of course accompanying him are his band members lol!
Question:
How is it different from Bahadur Yaar Jang?
Answer:
its different from BYJ in a lot of ways. First of all the overall sound of the album which is on the lighter side (almost no distortion guitars and hard rock sound). Also its a love story so majority of the songs in the album are love songs which is of course unlike BYJ. Lastly it’ll be more refined than its predecessor since we’ve evolved more as musicians over this period of time.
Question:
How many songs does this album have?
Answer:
The album currently is planned at 10 songs. Maybe we’ll have one more.
Question:
What is the feel of the music for this album? Is it melodramatic or upbeat?
Answer:
The majority of the feel of the album is light, easy-going and friendly. Songs that everyone can sing along to. There are a couple of darker and trippy tunes in it as well as we keep our minds to experimentation always
Question:
When is it expected to launch?
Answer:
We’ve planned release in December this year. Now hoping everything falls properly into the plan and there are no delays.
Question:
Will you be shooting videos for any of the songs in this?
Answer:
Yes shooting videos is a high priority this time as we didn’t get to do it with byj for different reasons. The album launch will definitely with a new music video Inshallah
Question:
Where do you think you guys stand in the spectrum of the local music industry?
Answer:
I think we stand at a very important place. There’s not much new original music coming in Pakistan and with the coming of this album we will have around 35 songs out in the market. How many “mainstream” or “established” bands can compete with that? Our intention and motto is to keep producing more and more original music and not really worry about our position in the industry. I personally want to define Pakistani Music with our work, want to create new standards of quality.
Question:
When is the album expected to complete?
Answer:
December 2016 is the planned release
Question:
Will you be playing these in any of your upcoming shows?
Answer:
Yes of course the idea is to play as many live shows as possible of the album. And we look forward to expanding our live performances from Karachi to other cities
Anwaar is handling all guitar work and keyboards mostly. Qumber is doing drums and also contributing in arrangements of songs. Zia is playing bass and contributing to other aspects of the songs as well, he has also co-composed 1 song with me. Ahmed has done lyrics and compositions for 8 songs in the album and will be performing and arranging all vocals and arrangements of the songs.
Stay tuned as we move ahead in the album and give you sneak-peaks and samples of what to expect.
